I have been involved with the underworld most of my life, not due to being a nefarious character or a lawless savage, but due to social exclusion. When I got one of the highest marks in Europe for my dissertation and got offered PhDs in several prestigious universities I immediately started mixing with criminals of every nature and I am going into HMP Liverpool to see a pal next Monday... This year I decided to join a chess club despite never having played the game. An old drinking buddy who used to be in the club said my ego would be "buried beneath 64 squares", but I didn't let that put me off! I have reached average grading on chess.com and players at the club were impressed by me! I am still not a very good chess player, but it is keeping me out of trouble!
